Re: Ciaran Laval blog on price changes
I suppose it is so common now, as to be thought of as the natural use of it, but ppl using "perks" rather than "perqs" often amuses me...lol
The last time I mentioned it someplace, the person to whom concerned completely ignored me and continued to use "perks".
So I only mention this in passing
perk 2 (pûrk)
n. Informal
A perquisite: "Temper tantrums over perks are more common than the American taxpayer might like to believe" (Maureen Dowd).
[Shortening and alteration of perquisite.]
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/perquisite
In any case, I shall continue to use "perqs" and the article is really good, regardless

I was aware of the derivation but my guess is that 90%-ish of folk in the UK would use "perks". Or am I wrong?

Re: Ciaran Laval blog on price changes
I suppose it hardly matters.
perqs is short for perquisites, which is the full word ppl are referring to...so I use perqs...lol
Just a small thing though, sorry to interrupt with my nonsense...

I imagine Dot will have an opinion but, as you say, each to their own.

Thank you Ciaran Laval & Kitely for the mention.

Interesting, I've never ran into this debate before. Having used some google foo I find a reference from the Collins English Dictionary:Minethere Always wrote:I suppose it hardly matters.

British English: perk Perks are special benefits that are given to people who have a particular job or belong to a particular group.

Maybe it's a British thing.
