KWC Stage 1.2

Post by Dot Matrix »

Ilan has said that Kitely would like to re-clone the Welcome Center at the end of September after further improvements and tweaks -- so if you know anything that might need attention, do use this thread. The work will take place in KWC Stage 1, which I've just re-opened to public access.

Here's the current to-do list:

Hall of Merchants: At Stage 1.0, for speed, we needed to select images from the Kitely Market ourselves. Now we've a little more time, we can include the images/products the merchants themselves would choose/supply. So... if your Market Store is included in the Hall, please think about what you would like to have shown. Guidelines are:
  • only G-rated images
  • don't include images with sales pitches or a lot of text on them
World Showcase: World images could be changed/improved. And think about what happens when you click the image in order to teleport to the world shown. Does that need changing? Or does it strike a good balance?

Meeting area for Mentors group (and others): The intended area for meetings is in the coffee bar (i.e. not around the fountain, which was meant to be a chill-out spot for stressed-out avies after work). Min is looking at the seating in that area; feedback and testing welcome.

Seats in general: Dundridge has commented that more seats could be added, e.g. "seats (possibly cushions) around the water near the landing point, possibly toe-dipping". He asked that, if poseballs were used, they should be the auto-sit sort, not requiring a right-click.

Displays at landing point: These need to be moved to match the official Welcome Center. The textures used on them need to be improved, but in line with the current look-and-feel of the wider region.

Positioning of plants: Some plants are growing into the mesh bridges at the landing point -- their position needs tweaking. We can check for this more widely too.

Ambient sounds: Are there any quiet spots that could benefit from bird song or other soothing, ambient sounds? When Sierra added her water sounds to the Stage 1 build, it really helped to make the place start to "live".

Any other ideas/suggestions/questions? Over to you!

Two thoughts ...

The showcases for worlds might be better as a circle rather than the current back to front.

Possibly adding an area that would allow for performances to be held.

I am here to volunteer, if some help with building, sculpting, meshing or texturing needed... let me know, if you can use my help.

Last week there was some trouble with landing point sand area, people was standing under the sand level. If it is still persist, I guess it is matter of right physic shape of mesh, I can discuss it with the creator of mesh, if needed:)

I have some cushions and bean bags, 1 prim sculpted, good for sitting, I can set some animations to them...

If you need some help with plants and trees, my supplies are still available to beautify KWC:)
I live among the trees. You are invited too:) Visit 21strom.

You mean you sank your toes in the sand ?! :)

aware of it - the physics mesh matches the landing point precisely in 3DS Max, but I think the import process offset it a couple cm. I can poke around with it if it bugs people a lot, or just stick a cube collider directly under the landing :D

I've had people say they like sinking in the sand, and others say it's bad... Let me know

Hi Dundridge,

Please fix the sinking, it makes the landing point look broken to some people. We don't want that to be the first impression those people get of Kitely :-)

I am simply curious about the benefits, why use a mesh? Why not a cylinder or tube prim with the sand texture on it and level the land under it?

Thanks, Dundridge.

Sarge, the original prim-based landing spot was replaced by mesh to improve the texture mapping.

One point to come out of today's mentors group meeting is a spec for a meeting area.

The meeting area needs to seat 25 people, sitting in a circle so that all can see and "hear" each other in local text chat.

Sarge offered an ampitheatre-style structure with lots of internal space for sitting on the ground. Another possibility might be to change the seating in the circular pillared region from grouped floor cushions to simple small ottomans, each seating a single avie.
