Merge OARs into Existing Worlds

We’re happy to announce that Kitely now has one of our community’s most highly requested features: the ability to merge multiple OAR files into a single big world. This is perfect for people who have regions on OSGrid and are looking for a new home grid with all the performance, usability and security benefits that Kitely provides.

Our new feature is called Merge OAR, and it appears in the Manage World dialog:

Select an OAR file and upload it. After you upload the OAR, you will see the Merge OAR dialog:

You have many options how to merge the OAR with the existing world. In the Copy from OAR section you can choose what to copy from your OAR to your world: Objects, Terrain or Parcels. If you choose to add the Objects, then you can also choose whether to delete the objects that are already in the world in the area where you’re merging the OAR.

You can choose the Position where you merge the OAR, either by dragging it on the map, or by entering exact coordinates. You can also rotate the OAR by selecting the desired rotation value under Rotation. The small blue triangle shows which way the OAR will be rotated.

Sometimes you want to put an OAR in the sky, so that it won’t overlap objects that are already in your world. You can do this by checking the Sky layer option. Just remember that sky layers don’t get terrain, so if you want people to be able to walk on the sky layer then rezz a floor below it. Otherwise visitors to the sky layer and Physical objects will drop to the ground.

You can even merge the OAR at a location that puts it partially outside the world. In that case only the part that overlaps the world will be imported, and the rest will not be copied to your world (that’s the part in red):

Big Worlds for the Win

The Merge OAR feature is perfect for Kitely because we offer very big worlds that are extremely high performance. You can get an Advanced World with 16 regions for $39.95 / month, fill it up with OARs, and it will still be fast! Or get a 64-region Mega World if you really want to stretch your legs:
